Baby Step #5: Tune In to Your Intuition
“When you really listen to yourself, you can heal yourself.”- Ceanne Derohan
I believe that each of us has a voice, quiet inner wisdom that speaks to us regularly. This voice is our inner guidance – the barometer that keeps us aligned with our authentic self.
The trouble is that most of us aren’t listening.
We aren’t listening because we haven’t learned to quiet the noise that engulfs us and to create space for new energy to flourish. You can begin to teach yourself to hear your own voice, to tap into the signals in your body and to sense shifts in your energy. No amount of seminars or book learning can take the place of tuning in to your own intuition. Just find a quiet spot, for a just a moment, and get started.
In Baby Steps #1 – #4 you’ve learned some simple ways to relax your physical body and to begin to clear your mind. Use those now. Take a few deep breathes, focus your thoughts on your favorite, calming place, and relax your gaze, turning your attention inward. This is the place where your intuition resides.
You know what I mean, don’t you? You’ve had that sense, that knowing sometimes, right? That weird feeling that you’ve been here before, that someone’s in danger or that you just had to do something now? That’s the sense you are trying to tap into now. Don’t try to figure it out, just pay attention.
What do you feel? Can you hear your inner voice speaking as you observe your favorite calming place? Just make a mental note—listen and observe it as if you were an outsider looking in. Don’t worry if you can’t hear it the first time. Try again. Don’t force it. Just relax into the experience.
Some women find it helpful to begin trying this process when they first wake in the morning or just as they are laying down to sleep in the evening. With time and practice, you will be able to call on your inner wisdom at will.
This is Baby Step #5 – Tune in to Your Intuition. Once you can recognize your voice, the next step is to learn to enhance your awareness. Some call it “meditation”, some call it “going inside”, and others will lead you through “guided visualizations”.
For a quick introduction to meditation, my friend Stacey Joiner, author of “You Deserve the Royal Treatment”, offers a free 2-minute meditation download at her website. Two minutes is all it takes to connect to a moment of peace. Go ahead, give it a try. You deserve it!
When you find a few free moments, explore some of the many meditations available online at no charge. See which resonates with you. Practice releasing your need to keep your mind busy—let it go and relax. With time, your true voice will be clearer and stronger. And for me, the more I hear that gentle voice of my inner wisdom, the quieter my inner critic becomes.
And therein lies the key to clarity, my ultimate goal. By staying connected to the voice of inner wisdom you will find your personal power and be inspired to take action along your personal path, your own “Wise Well Woman’s Way”.
“The most important things ever said to us are said by our inner selves.”– Adelaide Bry, writer.
Nurture your inner wisdom, and allow your voice to support you. My inner voice confirms for me a simple expression I keep posted on my desk: “You already have it.”
Which voice do you hear? Share your voice on the Wise Well Woman’s Facebook page or post a comment below, OK?
