The Wise Well Woman's Way

A New Year…A New You? Not me.

I’ve been pondering all the blog posts, invites, event announcements  I’ve been getting since the beginning of this month, and our entry in this new decade, that all speak to this idea of a “New You”.

Over the past two years, I’ve even participated in events, even as a speaker, with a “New You” in the title. And yet, today I’m sure that I don’t want to ever be creating a new me.

What I’ve learned is that my mission, my purpose, is not to create a new me, but to uncover the true me, the authentic me and to be willing to share that with the people who are interested in listening, so that they too, can join in this amazing journey of self-discovery.

Last January I joined a wonderful group of women at the beachside home of my friend, and life coach, Rochelle Schwartz, for a day of renewal and celebration to begin the New Year. As part of that day’s activities, we wrote a letter to ourselves. Mine was signed “Your Higher Power”. I received that letter in the mail today- nearly one year later.

At first, I was surprised, because I couldn’t make the connection- I didn’t remember how I had written this letter and was dumbfounded by how it had gotten to me. Clearly it was my handwriting, and clearly, it was my “voice” in the message.

And here’s the amazing part, a full year later, I looked at that message, read it back to myself a few times, and looked at it in awe, because it was a message that I really needed to hear TODAY. The real truth is, it was a message I would benefit from hearing almost any day. The difference between the person who wrote the message last year, and the person who received it today, is only an ever-increasing self-awareness and a willingness to believe, to have faith, in ever greatening possibilities.

What part of your true self are you hiding from the world? How does that continue to protect you? And what purpose does that serve?

Yes, it’s a new year. But no, I’m not a new me. I’m the same me I’ve always been. But now, I allow the essence of my evolving self to shine through in all that I do.

In the spirit of wisdom, wellness and prosperity, I hope you find yourself, too!
